Dentures & Partial Dentures

If you feel embarrassed to smile because of missing teeth, partial or full dentures can easily change that.

Dentures are replacement teeth connected to a gum-colored plastic base that fits into your mouth where your teeth are missing. It is secured by a metal frame that holds the dentures in place or by clasps, which attach to adjoining crowns for support. These removeable teeth work beautifully as a replacement for either one tooth or many; front or back. They are made to bode well with your original teeth, so you can smile and speak with confidence.

There are two types of dentures; partial and full. Depending on how many teeth are missing and where, Drs. Brian and Kelly Kleeb will provide you with a comprehensive evaluation so you can decide what is best for you.

Dentures eventually will need replacing. However, if cared for properly, they will typically last five to eight years. Because of their composition, they tend to wear down with time and, since they are not permanently affixed to the gums, the mouth will eventually shrink. When shrinkage changes the mouth’s contour, the dentures will not fit well and may become uncomfortable.

PARTIAL DENTURES

There are two types of partial dentures; overdentures and immediate dentures. We will recommend what is best for you.

Overdentures

If there are remaining teeth, we make every effort to save them. In this case, if possible, we may use an overdenture. This will help preserve your jawbone and with retaining the natural shape of your mouth. Your natural teeth will provide support for the denture and provide stability. An overdenture fits over the remaining teeth, giving your mouth a natural appearance.

Immediate Partial Dentures

Partial dentures typically are recommended when you are missing one or more of your natural teeth. Because they fill gaps between teeth, they are helpful in keeping your remaining teeth from shifting, causing further issues including jawbone shrinkage. They are replacement teeth that can easily be removed at night for a more restful sleep. When you get your dentures, it may take time to get used to, but once you do, you will enjoy a beautiful full smile once again.

FULL DENTURES

If you are missing most or all of your teeth, a full set of dentures can make all the difference in restoring your smile. This process requires extracting your remaining teeth. Once removed and the tissue is fully healed, we will fit your new set of full-mouth dentures and adjust for comfort. As with partial dentures, full dentures are easy to care for.

Taking Care of Your Dentures

Caring for your dentures is important to keeping them stain, plaque and bacteria free. There are many denture cleaning solutions on the market. Drs. Brian and Kelly Kreeb will recommend the one that’s best for your individual needs.

  • 1Remove them and rinse them off after eating. If this is not possible, at the very least , rinse them once a day with a denture cleaner, mild dish detergent or liquid hand soap.
  • 2Use a soft bristle toothbrush to remove loose food and soak in a denture cleanser to remove plaque, stains and food.
  • 3If you prefer using a denture adhesive, make sure to rid the adhesive from your gums using mild liquid soap and water. Do not use denture cleaner for this.
